The Flowing of Life

January and February were busy months in terms of my writing, a lot of competitions I was taking part in where scheduled for these two months, some back-to-back, leaving me very little time to keep up with blog posts.
This piece was something that I had created for a poetry competition but ultimately decided it didn't fit the brief quite right, so, I thought I would share it here. It's something a little different from the normal posts. A metaphorical journey from where a river begins to where it ends relating each of the stages it passes through to phases in life.

From the tip of the mountain, the flow will begin,
New life arrives from the sparks deep within,
Descending down and greeting the trees,
A tiny being moving on hands and knees.
Nourish the flora and fauna in kind,
Grow and learn, there’s meaning to find,
Glinting and glistening through the canopy’s light,
Rejoice in the time that everything feels right.
Faster now, moving in haste,
So much excess going to waste.
Slowing down into a turbulent lull,
A period that seems so chaotic yet dull,
Drifting debris floating gently and calm,
A picture-perfect scene written in Psalm.
The rapids begin to boil and churn,
The tranquil serenity can easily turn,
Falling once, twice, three times, and swill,
Into the abyssal canyon of echoing still.
Moving unnoticed through the inky black,
One of countless others marching in a pack.
Out into the sun and the warming rays,
Lifting the chill in a bright, golden gaze,
Almost to the end of the journey now,
Pathways converging and taking the vow,
To embrace the ocean and the expansive deep,
While the rippling waves usher an endless sleep.
Love flowing of life
